MG Victory Gundam has been announced! A MG kit from Victory gundam! Something that we have been waiting forever since many moons ago! I do think that the boxart looks a little weird though ^_^”. Note that it comes with the original head design, as well as the Hexa head. Cool!

I know I haven’t been able to blog consistently for the past few weeks, and probably won’t for another 2-3 weeks. Don’t worry, I intend to continue writing for Gundamore when I complete some of my committments. Meanwhile, feel free to savour the many photos and detailed reviews on this blog! Build Quality

This kit feels rock solid and its weight has an assuring feel to the hand. So far, everything seems perfect. A rather rare case eh? However, the weapon grips are a little too big for the hands to hand though.

Head

You have the usual gundam head design, save for blue replacing red and the exhaust vents are molded in yellow. There is no seperate neck joint unfortunately. The head just simply mounts onto the body with a ball socket type polycap. The joint is a little too loose for my liking even though there are no problems yet.

Body

The body has a very interesting way of building. The inner-most layer has the chest vents detailed as striped layers. Then you will attach the outerpiece of  the chest on top, followed by a blue chest vent cover. No, it doesn’t end there! You have to fit another yellow piece into the blue cover. A bit of an overkill isn’t it? The cockpit hatch can be easily opened. However, it does not pop open on its own at all. The degree of movement is rather small though. The waist occasionally moves up. Not really a problem, just shove it back down! The backpack is rather complicated in itself. There is a rack on each side of the backpack. The power generator for the mega beam launcher docks onto the left rack, and the red cable slots into a folding rack that swings out from the backskirt and attaches onto the mega beam launcher. The mega beam launcher can also dock onto the right side of the backpack. There are tail binders that sticks out from the bottom of the backpack (Wait, are these tail binders?) The armour for the backpack can indeed be removed.

Arms

The arms are extremely bendy. The shoulder is triple jointed, allowing the arms to extend out by unfolding the joints. The elbow is also triple jointed. Altogether, there are 7 joints, including the wrist! The good thing about having so many joints is the insane posability! However, it was a little tough posing the arms as the joints all moved at the same time! Similar to another RX-78 model, the NT-1 Alex, the g04 Gundam features two vulcans on its forearms. The armour on the shoulder slides on top of the shoulder itself and is locked into place by two flaps. This is very unique, since most kits only feature double joints at most. The fingers do not wrap around the guns really well, so adjustments may be needed from time to time.

Legs

The leg joints are tight, but not too tight like in the case of the GP03. Posing is rather easy, as the ankle seem to be able to bend more than the other MGs I have. A semi-complete inner frame is available for the thigh and top of the forelegs. Other than that, the design of the legs is so-so.

Weapons

This gundam comes with the mega beam launcher, a standard-issued beam cannon rifle and two beam sabers. The mega beam launcher is rather unwieldy as the red rubber cord sorts of nudges the launcher out of the hands. There is a peg on the left side of the launcher, right in front of the secondary grip for it to be docked onto the backpack. For the beam rifle, the handle can only be folded to the left, unlike what most other beam rifles can do. However, the sight can be rotated left and right. The shield is very interesting; yes, it slides! Basically, there are two pegs on the underside of the shield to secure it at the two standard lengths. I think that the mechanism is rather steady, as the shield can rotate about while you fold it in order to prevent breakage. Oh, I like how the beam saber hilts are blue ;D

Final Verdict

This is one great MG kit! The colour scheme is catchy and doesn’t bore you no matter how long you look at it, the mega beam launcher is awesome, the price point is perfect, details are way better than other MGs so far. To make it short, it’s probably one of the best MG variations of the RX-78!

My level of commitment has spiked in the past week and will remain this way for some time. I won’t be updating as regularly as before, but the posts will continue to come. I apologize for this. I hope you will continue to read Gundamore! Thanks!

I acquired this kit. Now, before you even ask, yes it is an MG without an inner frame! I managed to get it for 28 USD.

I got this kit mainly for its colours. I was surprised to find out that despite not having an inner frame, it still had many parts due to the different coloured parts. Hopefully I will get it done this weekend.

Update: I’ve fixed up the legs. I find it interesting that many detailed parts were located here, including inner frame pieces that actually attach onto the base layer.

Here’s the story behind how I acquire this Gouf Ignited:

Brazen Folly is really attracted to orange  & Gundam SEED suits. However after he built and painted it, he decided that it was spooking him looked weird and I decided to get another monoeye suit after the Zudah. So it was sold, and I spent a few hours correcting Brazen Folly’s slightly sloppy nipping working on it removing the nipmarks and moldlines, sanded down the insanely shiny, horrible looking plastic and gave it a coat of clear flat. As you can see in the pics, this kit needs lots of painting. Take heed!

Build quality

This kit is very solid with no parts be damaged so far except for one of the beam on the sword, but that was an accident made while the kit was painted. The joints are of the right tightness, but I wonder how long they will last.

Head

One thing I like about this head is how the base is designed. The base is flat, so the head can wiggle back and forth really easily as the neck joint is not obstructed. The monoeye cannot be moved. Apparently, the commander antennae is loose, but I think that’s because after sanding the peg is slightly smaller than before.

Body

The round tubing at the waist had a lot extra plastic flesh but sanding is pretty much optional. The front and sideskirts have amazing posability. At the back of the torso, there is a square indent into the body to mount the flightpack. I find that it is nice for the designer to include panel lines in there so the Gouf Ignited can actually look quite decent without the flightpack. For the flightpack itself, two slabs of stickers are given to be pasted on the upward facing wings. The wings are connected to the thrusters by ball joints, so posability is really good and they won’t snap off anytime soon even after reposing it many times.

Arms

The forearms are the most interesting section. The red pieces that contain the hardpoints for the shield also mount the beam gattling guns. The guns sort of hooks into place so they are secured very well. Do note that they are molded in gray and not red.  On the underside of the arm, there is a hardpoint to connect the heat rod. The hardpoint is usually hidden by a plastic cap which I initally mistook for an extra piece of runner Brazen Folly might have stuck in there ^ ^”

Although it is indeed praiseworthy that the kit designer decided to let the heat rod dock into the arm instead of just dangling outside, apparently the way you mount the heat rod requires caution as the hand holding it barely managed to click into the arm joint before you insert the heat rod into the arm, so you might break the heat rod itself.

Legs

There aren’t really anything special, save for the thrusters on each leg. These legs have the same kind of joints as the Zudah, so posability is really good.

Weapons

The weapon set of the Gouf Ignited is no doubt unorthodox as it only has mounted gattling guns and the rest are melee weapons, very much like the Exia. A straightened heat rod and a heat rod meant for wrapping around another 1/144 is given. There is one standalone beam sword and a melee shield with a hidden, conventional sword sheathed underneath the shield, that has the bottom of its hilt protruding out a little. It is indeed cool that the Gouf Ignited can be posed drawing the hidden sword. Other than that, there’s nothing really too impressive.

Final Verdict

I think that this HG is a nice change from the usual Gundam mobile suits with its unique colour and weapon set. However, it does not really leaves an impression in me, unlike the Zudah. It did cost much lesser than the Zudah though! The Gouf Ignited is something you might add onto your ‘want list’ if you like the SEED redesign of the original Gouf.

Ok, so it has been a week since I wrote a review due to some commitments me spending some time modding my kits. The Gelgoog is complete and I’ve also worked on Brazen Folly’s work on the Gouf Ignited Custom. Meanwhile, guess which Custom I have worked on! The review will come online today! Just posting this to let you know this blog ain’t stopped with its reviews!

I have completed the battle damage for the lower torso and legs, as well as painted the inner frame at the parts that have been ‘blown up’. This leaves the right arm and head completely untouched and the upper torso needs to be sanded once more. And yes, the Gelgoog can balance ridiculously well..

I’ve decided to do a battle damage mod was because my gelgoog had an irreparable borken leg joint.

One of the key objectives of this mod is to reveal the inner frame of the Gelgoog. I have also changed my sanding method by doing the first layer with a file then polishing the scratchmarks with 1000 grit sandpaper.

AEU Enact Demo Collar

Finally. A New kit from the current 00 series. This version of the Enact, meant for a military demonstration, is in cyan instead of the drab green the enacts are later mass produced in. The Enact, according to Katagiri, is largely derived from Flag technologies, runs entirely on solar power harvested from the orbital elevator solar power panels. Though this unit is one of the most advanced at the time of its production, the GN drive equipped Gundam Exia quickly dismembers it when Celestial Being chooses to gatecrash. Much to their embarrassment the AEU military realizes that their best and newest unit in the hands of their most skilled pilot cannot compare with the Exia.

Design

This Enact. Hmmm. Contrary to the Overflag series it is vividly coloured in a bright shade of cyan. Like the overflag it switches between flight mode and mobile suit mode. The mobile suit mode has long and slender limbs like a girl I know and can scarcely stand upright. I’m serious. It looks thin and topples over often. I’ll elaborate on this later. The Enact sports a mere linear rifle that pales in comparison to the blade/rifle its Ali Al Sachez counterpart possesses. It comes with a defence rod meant for mounting on its left arm, and a plasma sword. No sign of that vibrating dagger we see in the show though.

By folding up the Enact collapses into a mobile armour meant for atmospheric maneuvering. Here its linear rifle slots into its waist armour to form the fighters nose, and its legs move back to expose 20 mm machine guns. Very nice.

Building

This kit strays from the normal gunplay builds. First and foremost it lacks the usual polycaps. Movable parts are molded in black ABS plastic and ball joints are a major feature in the parts on the trays. The kit snaps together quite well. However, upon completion one realizes that balance in the Enact is woefully inadequate due to its height. Its long legs cause a high center of gravity, causing the enact to topple over at the slightest nudge.

I was deterred from the Union Flag kit due to the horrible transformation. Apparently most of the time kits would just jam themselves in limbo halfway between mobile suit and armour mode. Ha ha ha. As for the Enact, I received intelligence reports that it would transform without glitches, and that the faulty collar armour present in the Flag was absent here. As my sources would have suggested, this was completely true.

The Enact can transform properly!

Other than this, it is rather posable and foil stickers give us most of the correct colours for unpainted parts. That is, excepting the defence rod and plasma sword, as well as the heels. There are yellow lights on the lower legs which I didn’t bother to mark.

As for the Head two different parts are included- the footsoldier one and the commander one, yes? Yes. They did include it. Mmmph.

Weaponry

The Enact has a linear rifle which looks quite dreamy. It curves softly and is essentially shaped so as to be aerodynamically compatible with the mobile armour configuration. Therefore the rifle deviates from the normal gundam rifle design. The handle should be secured with some tac since it angles back and forth.

The beam weapon, that plasma sword thingy comes in the same cyan. It must be painted. No choice. Bandai does not include the un-ignited beam sabre- the handle part.

The 20 mm machineguns are represented by two discs on the Enacts pelvis.

Posability

I would say the posability has been improved by the removal of polycaps from the build. This means a lot of incredible poses- especially with the versatile extra hand. The enact can claw at people, or do a two handed grip on its rifle. Very nice.

However the Enact’s extended posability won’t last very long. The plastic ball joints wear out far too quickly with activity.

Overall

I like this kit a lot compared to the Flag for its bright colours and good transformability. After all the bad press the overflag received I am pleasantly surprised by the quality of the Enact kit.

Ok, I’m almost through my entire sheet of waterslides, except for the irrelevant White Base decals and excess numbers. They applied easily though you have to be careful not to soak them inadequately (they will not budge and may even tear apart) or for too long (the decals will start floating on the water. Save it by swiping it up with a cotton bud and not your tweezers!) So how were the results? See for yourself!

Ok, so I finally decided to get my third Zeon suit! The amazing Zudah that just lacked a speed limiter!

Build Quality

The build quality of this kit is awesome! It feels as sturdy as an MG, probably because the inner components are plentiful. No fragile parts so far, though I believe that the commander antennae might break some time soon. This kit also has a lot of double joints, such as the torso to the shoulder and the ankle.

Head

The mono-eye can be moved as it has a periscope-like connector which you can access by removing the top of the helmet. Awesome! The neck joint is not visible as it has a tubing piece that covers it completely. The posability is not affected due to the base of the neck being unobstructed.

Torso

The torso had a fuss free building. There are many grooves to paint at the front though. I recommend using a microbrush and the chrome gundam marker for best effect. For the thruster at the back, I think it is kind of fragile as the output is not connected directly to the orange ‘ball’ with a tiny piece in between them. It is molded in black. The ‘ball’ snaps onto the backpack via a ball socket so it’s free to rotate.  Cool! I like the touch of the 4 mini verniers that sit on the edge of the backpack. A spare clip for the Zaku machinegun rests on the left side skirt. No, you cannot actually use this clip with the machinegun itself unlike other kits.

Arms

The shoulder has joints similar to the MG strike where they can lean forward and backward fully, unlike the 00 HGs. Upward movement is great too, since they have an extra polycap just for this axis. You can extend the length of the biceps by pushing the pistons at the top of the shoulder. This is actually practical as it reduces strain on the arms when holding the weapons in a two-handed grip. The hands are really tight too, so they will not fall apart while holding the weapons. On the left shoulder, there is a pivoting joint for the shield that has 180 degrees of movement. I really fancy how the arms were engineered as they can actually handle the weight of the huge 21 cm anti-ship rifle.

Legs

The legs are reminiscent of Gundam type mobile suits due to its slim profile. It expands out at the ankle to barely cover the Zaku style big feet. Although the posability of the ankles are no match compared to the 00 Gundam, it outclasses most other HGs. There are two weapon docking points on the outside of the calves, which you can insert the heat hawk rack or the Zaku machinegun. A very nice touch since you don’t usually see such docking points for primary weapons even in MGs. The knees can be pretty much. The legs are a nice touch as they feature so much posability even though the Zudah was introduced as a space unit that heavily relied on its thruster for mobility.

Weapons

There are 2 melee weapons and 3 projectile weapons included, making a very nice collection! The first one is the heat hawk. Nothing special, molded in one piece with a nice leg rack thrown in. The shield has two spikes that can be rotated down for some instant piercing action. The Sturm Faust launcher is attached to the underside of the shield. There is a normal Zaku rifle that has a movable scope and folding grip. Now on to the big deal: The 135mm Anti-ship Rifle. So you are thinking what’s the big deal? The RX-79 Has a 125mm machine gun in its fieldpack? Well, this 135mm Anti-ship rifle is long. Really long! It measures 21 cm! Even the 1/100 MG GP03S bazooka is shorter than it, even though it’s of a bigger scale. The MG Grand Slam is slightly bigger at 22 cm! Amazingly, the Zudah does not struggle to hold it due to the extendable biceps and the better weight distribution towards the butt of the rifle, so it does not affect the kits stable CG.

Final Verdict

If you like mono-eye suits, go get the Zudah! Its weapons and decals will blow you away!

I’ve just managed to complete my Zudah after 5 hours! My first attempt at the no paint method! Here are some teaser pics for the upcoming review:

I also got some waterslide decals and the Celestial Being Base.

The waterslide decals are totally worth it as you won’t mess them up that easily as they are practically printed plastic sheets that have glue similar to those found on stamps. Just make the application surface a little damp and you can adjust the decal after you slide it on. I recommend that you slide these decals on after applying flat top coat to ensure better adhesion. These decals don’t tear too!

The Celestial Being base is exactly like the Action Base 1 except that you only have two holes on the base. I am afraid that stress lines will appear on the transparent arms though.

Due to recent feedback of my reviews being too long, I will focus on the special features of the kits only.

Build Quality

This kit has a weighty feel to it however it is very fustrating posing it due to fragile parts. Panel lines seem to be plentiful, but no, there still isn’t enough panel lines! Plenty of stickers are included so almost no painting is required.

Body

I encountered quite a few problems doing the chest vents as the parts do not fit together easily. For the GN capacitor in front of the body. The flap covering it will swivel up 90 degress and the bottom flap can nudge downwards a little. The yellow antennas at the top of the torso moves the most among the HG 00 lineup. Waist posability is very good.

Arms

The shoulder armour moves a lot thus it hardly limits upper arm posability. However, the hands are rather bad as the piece that forms the back of the palm often pops off at the slightest nudge while holding the GN Bazooka

Legs

The legs have near zero posability. You cannot pose the virtue with its legs standing straight up as the bulging calves just simply get into each others way! Behind the enormous shin armour, two beam sabers hilts are docked in place. The ankle posability is very limited and this peeved me as the very unposable forelegs and the obstructing ankle flap has made things really nasty for its balance. You will have to make do with Virtue standing like a block if you do not use an action stand. Stand still there Chubby! The GN Field generators at the side of the calves can extend outwards.

Weapons

The real deal of this kit! It comes with 1 GN Bazooka, 2 back-mounted GN Cannons and two beam sabers complete with transparent, pink beams! The GN Bazooka can be held in 3 different manners. The one-handed way of holding it is to insert the right grip at the bottom back of the cannon and grip it. I don’t recommend doing so as the front end is way too heavy, thus the cannon will actually cause the hinge on the grip to slant forward, pointing the cannon downwards. For the two-handed holding method. Put the grips at the sides, extend them outwards and push the rail mount of the grips to the front. Insert the back into the opened GN drive core. For the full blast mode, slide the front of the bazooka downwards and extend the yellow barrel.  The GN cannons have extendable barrels and the top can open up in GN Field mode. They are connected to the back in a similar fashion to the 00 Gundam’s drives. These cannons can be detached and hand held by Nadleeh.

Final Verdict

This is an average kit that does not really stand out. Get it if you love that fat look!

Build quality

I am rather disappointed with this kit as it is extremely flimsy and unbalanced in its Mobile Suit mode. Parts fall off frequently and they do not pose properly. In its flight mode, all the flimsy parts are locked securely so they do not pose any problem.

Head

The V fin of the head is very loose and falls off very easily. The antennae at the back of the head can swivel up and down. This is because it will slot through the back piece during flight mode and act as the third antennae. The neck joint is also very loose and the head will often droop to one side. Very unsightly!

Body

The front of the torso is made up of an orange piece, so painting is compulsory. The orange front piece caves up just around the GN chest piece and I think it’s nice. At the back of the torso, the flight mode parts which contains the pseudo cockpit folds backwards to form a triangular shape. I think this is the ideal solution as it doesn’t look as bulky as the Zeta Gundam’s backpack. There is some limited waist motion. The front skirts are very flimsy and although it is molded and inserted as one piece, eventually the tiny connector will break off and the front skirts can move individually. The bottom of the front skirts are usually obstructed by the knees so you cannot fold it all the way down. There are no side skirts as the engines mounted on the side of the legs actually serves that purpose. The back skirt is rather big and the bottom half of the flight mode piece will dock into it after transformation

Arms

There are two swivelling orange pieces that mount onto the back of the shoulder. These pieces do not grip onto the shoulder very well, so after some wear and tear, they actually do fall out at the slightest touch. At the top of the shoulders there is a peg on each side that connects to the side of the pseudo cockpit during transformation after folding the shoulder upwards. These pegs are very steady. The shield of the Kyrios do not actually dock into the arm. Instead, it has a peg that clips to the side of the forearm. I think that this is not a good design as the shield cannot rotate when mounted. On top of that, it is actually too long to be positioned at the side of the arm when in Mobile Suit mode as it is obstructed by the shoulder. The hands do not fit tightly into the forearms due the overly large insides of the sockets.

Legs

The wings are mounted right in front of the knees. They are supposed to be folded in mobile suit mode. However, these wings will sometimes droop downwards. When these wings are folded up, they actually get in the way of the front skirts. The ankles do not have the usual ball and socket joint, so the balance of the kit is pretty much affected as the legs are very stiff. The feet can fold inwards. At the side of the legs, there are these huge black GN thrusters that extend all the way up to the thighs. The thighs can move individually though.

Weapons

There are 4 weapons included; the double barrelled beam rifle, the GN shield and claw and 2 beam saber hilts. The beam rifle can be mounted onto the forearm by a rack that connects to a small socket positioned right in front of the rifle grip. The rifle grip can be removed and held in the hand while the rifle is docked to the rack. The claw can be posed open without any difficulties as the joints are rather tight. The optional blade can be inserted between into a socket between the claws, hidden at the back of the shield.

Flight Mode

It is a little complicated to transform Kyrios to it’s flight mode. First remove the hip connectors from the legs and insert a special leg connector piece that slots over the ball joints in the hips. The legs will now connect into this leg connector. Sweep the wings backwards and rotate the feet to the top and fold them down. Unfold the back, angle the head backwards and slot the anntanne into the back of the pseudo cockpit and raise the other two attenaes. Swivel out the shoulder connectors and then dock the shoulders into the side of the pseudo cockpit. Press the bottom of the backpack flat against the side skirt. Finally, remove the beam rifle from its grip and leave the grip in Kyrios’s hand while docking it with the rack. Whew! Done!

Final Verdict

I believe that the 1/100 Kyrios would be a better buy as its size and weight would cause the components of the kit to be steadier. No promises though! Oh, of course, less painting would be required and of course more details. For people who would prefer to leave Kyrios in its flight mode, I would recommend this kit as it fairs pretty well in this mode.
